Friday
Good Morning Everyone! Cindy got settled in at the rehab hospital late yesterday afternoon. We had to answer a battery of questions, but everyone has been very nice. The doctor (cancer rehab specialist) spent about 30 minutes with us, before the nurses came in to get vitals and assist us with the paperwork. This is going to be a different deal than the hospital. For one they did not have the setup for me to spend the night, so I left about 8:00 p.m. and spent the night at our friend's, Dave and Debbie (that bed was very comfortable after sleeping in a recliner for two weeks). Two weeks! I can hardly believe it. I am actually writing this on their computer, since Cindy has an occupational therapy evaluation this morning, and an early afternoon physical therapy evaluation. She continues to experience periodic, painful spasms in her back muscles, which are typically a result of back surgery. Those attending to her are working to minimize the spasms. I plan to return to the rehab center early this afternoon. We do not know at this juncture how long Cindy will be in rehab, but it appears likely that she (insurance company allowing) will be there at least until her radiation is scheduled to begin, which is next Thursday, and possibly longer. I will need to take part in some of the rehab sessions as they have some training for the primary caregiver assisting the patient after her return home. Cindy and I have had quite a bit of experience with hospitals, but this is a new and different opportunity here. We are very grateful to have come this far, and with your prayers and God's grace, we plan to make the most of this continued journey. Have a great day!

I called Cindy last night and she was able to speak with me a min...bless her heart, she told me she had been falling asleep on people. So, I didn't talk but a min. She did tell me about being a "big girl" and sleeping by herself...you have been so good to her! I know you don't like to be away from her. Sorry about them not having a bed for you! Would you be able to get something...mabye an air bed to sleep on...here is one example I found online: http://www.target.com/Coleman-Double-High-Air-Bed-Twin/dp/B0008FV0EM It's a twin size fron target. Then you could actually lay flat on your back or stomach instead of being in a chair. This one you'd have to order off line but ships in about 24 hr or I'm sure you could find one in a store, too. You could look online at what REI has, you are near one there in Charlotte. I hope Cindy has a good day! It does sound like you all were busy getting settled in. Talk with you all soon! Love, Maria

My last comment did not go through.I evidently did not do something right.I have talked to Dan twice this week and wish I knew a good time to call when you are not sleepy or having therapy. I know all is going well and you are nearing coming home and we are ready for that.
Much Love,
Rebecca
